New employees at VMSW work closely with our Training and

Development Coordinator. Together you will conduct a needs

assessment that leads to the design and delivery of a personal

training and development plan. Your plan will be specially created

to enhance your knowledge and skills, achieve your goals, and

help you to be successful at VMSW.

Chartered Accountant Stream

VMSW UFE Preparation Program

The VMSW UFE Preparation Program provides CA Finalists with an opportunity to develop their UFE case writing techniques in a structured environment.

Firstly, you will participate in our internal UFE Preparation Program. This four day course, delivered by recently qualified VMSW Chartered Accountants, will provide you with an introduction to exam writing techniques. You will write both multi-competency and comprehensive questions that have appeared in previous Uniform Final Examinations. You will be marked and receive personal feedback on each practice examination.

Next you will attend a formal exam writing techniques course offered by educational institutions approved by VMSW. Your time spent in the internal VMSW course will enable you to concentrate on refining your technique in this simulated UFE environment.

Throughout your examination year you will have access to our Training and Development Coordinator and other recently qualified CA’s. It is everyone’s responsibility to help you be successful in the Core Knowledge Examinations, the School of Accountancy and the Uniform Final Examinations.

CA Financial Support Package

During your examination year you will require financial support to enable you to concentrate on the task at hand. VMSW is there for you providing a generous package of paid time off and exam fee reimbursements.

Package 1:  Students writing the Core Knowledge Examinations and attending the School of Accountancy

Core Knowledge Examination

·    One study day off prior to the Core Knowledge Examination as unpaid leave.

·    Accumulated overtime or vacation days may be applied to this day or additional study days.

·    Examination fees for one session are reimbursed upon successful CKE completion

ICAO School of Accountancy

·    Regular salary paid for one session of the School of Accountancy.

·    School of Accountancy fees are reimbursed upon successful completion.

Uniform Final Examination

·    A week of paid time off for study in addition to regular vacation

·    Accumulated overtime may be applied to additional study time

·    Additional unpaid study time as required

·    Fees for one session of an approved exam writing technique course  

·    Reimbursement of one set of examination fees upon successful completion

·    Accreditation bonus of $1,000 upon receipt of the Chartered Accountant designation

Package #2:  University of Waterloo MAcc Graduates Exempt from the CKE and SOA

University of Waterloo MAcc Program

·    $5,000 tuition assistance for the MAcc program upon successful completion

Uniform Final Evaluation

·    A week of paid time off for study in addition to regular vacation

·    Accumulated overtime may be applied to additional study time

·    Additional unpaid study time as required

·    Fees for one session of an approved exam writing technique course 

·    Reimbursement of one set of examination fees upon successful completion

·    Accreditation bonus of $1,000 upon receipt of the Chartered Accountant designation

CGA or CMA Stream

Financial Support Package

• One paid day off per course for an examination.
• Accumulated overtime may be applied to additional study time
• Additional unpaid study time as required
• Reimbursement of course and exam fees for one session upon successful completion.
• Accreditation bonus of $1,000 upon receipt of the Certified General Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designation

CAREER AND SKILL DEVELOPMENT

Our commitment to continuous learning and the development of our people means we invest extensively in ongoing training. As part of their mandates our specialist groups provide seminars and updates in technical areas such as assurance, taxation and computer technology. In addition, you will be provided with funding for individual external training programs to help you develop the skills you need to advance in your career.

Mentoring and coaching play major roles in your development. You will be assigned to a team which includes a Partner, a Manager and all levels of staff in the Firm. It is everyone’s responsibility to ensure you achieve your goals and make the best of your career.
